Hiring A Skip For Your Summer Garden Renovations

Hiring a skip for your summer garden renovations should be straightforward. At the end of the day, nobody is ever looking forward to renovating their garden… They are, however, excited to have a cold one in it when it’s over. So, the easier we can make things, the better.

When we are lucky enough to have a summer like this one, it feels like our gardens truly have the opportunity to come alive. It becomes the perfect time to roll up your sleeves and renew your outdoor spaces so that they can be enjoyed until Autumn comes. From decking and patio refurbs to shrub clearances and soil preparations, summer is prime time for garden make-overs. However, if you’ve tackled a gardening project before, you’ll know how quickly waste can pile up. Anything from soil, turf, rubble, green clippings, fence panels and even old breeze blocks used to prop up a rusty shed.

This is where Morley Skips comes in. We’ve spent over 25 years helping homeowners across Essex and Suffolk to transform their gardens without the mess. Here’s how skip hire, together with our grab-hire and roll-on roll-off (RORO) services, can make your summer project more waste-friendly.

Why Waste Management Matters In Garden Projects

A garden renovation is more than simply removing a few sections of turf or plants. It’s a huge project that adds value to your property.

When you’re overhauling the look or feel of your garden, even digging down a few inches can result in sizeable amounts of leftover debris, and it piles up fast. Without a proper waste disposal strategy, even a small garden job can leave mounds of unwanted garden waste across your newly renovated outdoor space.

For this reason, hiring a skip for your summer garden renovations is essential.

The Benefits of Having a Skip On-Site

Centralised Waste Collection
Instead of carrying waste to a wheelie bin or in the car to local tips, all garden debris goes straight into the skip. That saves time, energy, and (most importantly!) your back.

Health and Safety
Piles of rubble or soil left lying around can be a trip hazard, especially as the daylight fades and you forget where things are. A skip keeps things tidy and safe, especially over the busy summer weekends when you want to maximise your garden or outdoor area.

Compliance Made Easy
It’s your responsibility to dispose of garden waste correctly. Many councils prohibit certain types of waste at local tips. A skip ensures your green waste is recycled responsibly.

Time-Saving
With a skip on-site, you can focus on the renovation itself. No time is wasted on clearing out mid-project.

Summertime Garden Projects

Here are a few common summer tasks that our clients have utilised our services for:

  • Turf removal and replacement: Hello, new lawn, goodbye old turf and topsoil
  • Patio or deck installation: Reclaimed slabs or wood go straight into a skip
  • Fence replacement: Old panels, posts and concrete stumps are all disposed of responsibly
  • Garden room demolition: Even small timber-framed structures can fill a skip
  • Greenhouse clearance: Glass, soil and plant waste handled hassle-free
  • Tree topping, hedge trimming: Large branches and green debris are taken away quickly
  • Pond building or rockery installation: Earthworks and stone spoil removed responsibly

Which Skip To Choose For Your Garden Renovation

Morley Skips offers several options tailored to the scale and access level of your garden:

Standard Skips (4-8 yards / 25-70 bin bags)

Ideal for most home garden projects. Compact enough for driveways or front lawns, yet roomy for sheds, soil, turf, or patio waste.

Roll-On Roll-Off (20–40 yards)

This can be overkill for small gardens, but perfect for larger gardens or tasks such as rebuilding a large section of walling or excavating a pond. This level of capacity is great at handling heavy-duty materials like reclaimed concrete or brick.

Grab Hire & Muck-Away

Perfect for if you don’t have a driveway or clear access to your garden. Our grab-hire lorry can reach in with its 10-metre arm, meaning that you don’t need space for a skip drop-off. We collect waste directly, over buildings and around hard-to-reach corners, making it ideal for when skip placement isn’t an option.

Skip Bags (CO5 and CM9 only)

For small tasks like clearing weekly trimmings or garden overspill, skip bags are a handy alternative to bulkier waste removal options. We deliver them to an area of free space that you have, collect them, fill, and process the waste for you.

Planning For Your Garden Waste

A successful renovation starts with planning, and skip hire is no exception. Here’s a step-by-step guide to keeping your site tidy and on track over summer:

1. Estimate Waste and Book Your Container

Think about the type of waste that you have, is it turf, soil, broken stone, fencing or garden furniture? Then decide what type of container matches your volume and access. You can then either give us a call or book online here

  • Skip bag for small-scale jobs
  • 2–8-yard skips for medium projects
  • 10–14-yard skips for larger projects such as demolishing an outhouse or brick shed
  • 20–40-yard RORO for garden replacements, such as removing patios, large areas of turf or taking down walls
  • Grab-hire for tricky access and bulk muck-away

2. Check Access and Space

Skips need to be placed in a clear, accessible space. If your ideal area is narrow or not accessible due to a car on the drive, then grab-hire or skip bags are better suited. ROROs need a solid place to sit with room for lifting. If you’re unsure, please contact our team, who will discuss this with you and can arrange a skip licence fee for an additional cost if needed.

In most cases, we can drop a skip or send a grab-hire lorry the very next working day; during busier periods, this can vary slightly.

3. Plan Collection Timing

Simply book your collection when the garden is cleared, but please ensure that you do not overfill the container. It’s more cost-effective for you if we take the existing skip away and replace it with an empty one.

Recycling With Morley Skips

At Morley Skips, all removed rubbish is transferred to our in-house waste transfer station. Everything is both mechanically and manually sorted so that it can go on to be repurposed:

  • Soil used for restoration projects
  • Stones, bricks and rubble are processed and crushed into aggregates
  • Green waste is composted
  • Metal, glass, and plastics are separated for recycling
  • Wood waste is used for power generation
